He says he needs time to miss me?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for about two years now. We really DO spend A LOT of time with each other. I liked it. And he told me he wanted it that much too...before. Recently, he's been feeling like I'm smothering him. I understand. A few weeks back, we started having a lot of fights about little random things and we had a short break. Then we hung out for two days straight as we were making up. Then last night, he mentioned that i'm taking up too much of his time yet again though it has only been two days ( we used to spend A LOT more ). He said, "i need Time to miss you" and "I want a chase" and he said the only reason I like him so much is because he is my first. A combination of all of that, He made me feel terrible about myself and I broke up with him. Did i do the right thing?
